Anna Szczerba, age 98, of Perrysburg, OH and formerly of Mulberry Street in Toledo’s Polish Village, passed away Friday, December 15, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 30, 1925 in Rodatycze, Poland to Anthony and Agnieszka (Galas) Sosnicka. Growing up in Poland, Anna worked hard on her family’s farm. In 1948, she married Wladyslaw Szczerba. Together they raised four children, moving with them to America in 1979. Anna was a devout Catholic and woman of strong faith. Blessed with a beautiful singing voice, she was a talented and sought-after soloist. She was known for her culinary skills and worked as a cook and baker at Rojek’s Catering in Toledo. A skilled seamstress, she enjoyed knitting and crafting as well. Anna adored her family, and loved watching her grandchildren play and grow. Always feisty and honest, she remained sharp-witted and independent to the end.
Anna is survived by her children, Anna Tarejlis, Jan (Wieslawa) Szczerba, Tadeusz (Elzbieta) Szczerba, and Stanislaw Szczerba; grandchildren, Basia (Vincent) Rhoades, Joe (Agnieszka) Tarejlis, Sylwia (Janusz) Kozieja, Magdalena (Chad) Szczerba, Alicja (Robert) Bleile, Ania (Michael) Biglin, Andrew Szczerba, and Natalie Szczerba; and great-grandchildren, Angelika, Julia, Daniel, Krystian, Sebastian, David, Maximillian, Alexandra, Austin, Cameron, Olivia, Emmet, and Aiden. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wladyslaw; and daughter-in-law, Helene Szczerba.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 20 from 3-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. with a rosary at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Boulevard, Toledo. Interment will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
