Aloysius Paul “Al” Katafiasz, age 95 passed away peacefully on Friday, August 11, 2023 at ProMedica Ebeid Hospice surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 26, 1928 to Felix and Theresa (Kolinski) Katafiasz. Al was a graduate of Macomber High School and a Veteran of the US Army, having served between WWII and the Korean War. He was employed by Graybar Electric Co. for 43 years, retiring as Operating Manager in 1987. A longtime parishioner of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, he was a 50+ year member of the choir, a member of the Holy Name Society, a member and officer of the Parish Council, a Boy Scout leader, and a member and officer of the St. Hyacinth Seniors.
Al was a caring Husband, Father, Dziadz, Pra-Dziadz, and friend. Family was always first as was his involvement with St. Hyacinth. He took pride in everything he did. He believed in a strong work ethic which was passed on to his children. He thoroughly enjoyed playing the “slots” at casinos and became a frequent bus trip organizer. He loved his life and remained very much in love with Rita, his wife of 63 years.
Al is survived by his sons, Ken (Rosie) Katafiasz and Mike (Laurie) Katafiasz; daughter Ann (Danny) Kujawa; grandchildren, Cindy (John) DeBoy, Luke Katafiasz, Rev. Rob Katafiasz, Becky (Spencer) Zuercher. Tom (Heather) Katafiasz; Angie (Jason) Dollman-Jersey, Denise Katafiasz, Emily (Ben) Brown, Jackie (Matt) Olzak, Andy (Megan) Kujawa, and Jessie (Justin King) Kujawa; and great grandchildren, Caitlin, Julia, Zoey, Gideon, Sirena, Maggie, Abby, Evelyn, Aurora, Jade, Logan, Colton, Rylee, Calvin, Edison, and Nora. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Chester Katafiasz; wife, Rita (Ogrodowski) Katafiasz; son, Thomas Katafiasz; and grandchildren, Amy Katafiasz and Jane Katafiasz.
Family and friends may visit Tuesday, August 15 from 3-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The Funeral Mass will begin Wednesday at 10 am in St. Hyacinth Church, Parkside Blvd at Victory Ave, preceded by visitation in the church from 9-10 am. Interment with Military Honors led by the VFW 606 Burial Corps will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
