Amelia Bier Obituary

Amelia Bier, 98, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, after what she said was a “Good Long Life!” Born September 26, 1926, to Ubaldo and Eleonora Mariutto, in the small village of Orgnese, Italy, she learned to work hard on the family farm. When she was 14, Amelia’s mother passed away. Afterwards, Amelia helped her father by cooking, cleaning the house, and caring for her younger sister and brother. She remained extremely close to all her siblings throughout her life and took many trips to Italy, England, and Australia to see them.

At 32, Amelia immigrated to the United States to be with her devoted husband, Renato, and settled in Toledo, Ohio.  She proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1968. Amelia and Renato had one son and three grandchildren. Being a “Momma” and “Nonna” was her greatest joy. Her favorite days were spent around the dining room table with family eating and playing a lively Italian card game of Briscula! Pasta, Polenta, and Crostoli were some of her favorite meals and treats to share.

She loved walks outdoors, especially through Wildwood Metropark, which later turned into wheelchair strolls past the Manor House. At home, she enjoyed watching both American and European football, basketball, baseball, old movies, and her favorite television show, Everybody Loves Raymond. She was a devoted member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church since 1967 and enjoyed monthly visits from Fr. Jim Morman in the last years of her life. She was grateful to her many wonderful aides, especially Sue, Christy, Lauren, Kelly, and Theda, whose support allowed her to remain in her cherished home.

Amelia was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Renato Bier; her parents, her sisters and brothers-in-law; Lucia (Elio) Maraldo, Ines (Aldo) Tramontin, and Emi Roman (Gino); and her brother, Luigi Mariutto. She is survived by her son, Dr. James “Jim” (Ramona “Mona”) Bier; grandchildren, Anthony, Dominic, and Maria Bier; sister, Luigia “Nina” Daniel (Melbourne, Australia); brother, Rudy (Bice) Mariutto (Orgnese, Italy); sisters-in-law, Luisa “Baby” Mariutto (Woodstock, IL) and Judi (Steve) Tertuliani (Northwood, OH), and many treasured nieces and nephews around the world.

Her family will forever cherish her love, strength, and unwavering faith.
