Anthony John “Tony” Groch, age 84, of Toledo, OH passed away at home on Monday, June 5, 2023. He was born on March 25, 1939 in Toledo to John and Lecadia (Skomer) Groch. After graduating from St. Hedwig Catholic Grade School and Macomber High School, Tony went to Trade School to become a Tool and Die Maker. He worked 32 years for O-I in Perrysburg as a Pattern and Model Maker, retiring in 1991. Tony volunteered at St. Catherine Grade School as a Master Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed woodworking and carving. Tony was a huge horseshoe and corn hole player, as well as an avid fisherman, who delighted in catching Walleye and Perch or relaxing on his boat docked at Meinke Marina. He also took great pleasure in spending time with his family and friends during the winter at his vacation home in Boynton Beach Florida. Tony was a member and former Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, CWV Jude Thaddeus Post 1675, Moose Lodge, F.O.E., and PRCUA. He kept up with the polka bands around town and loved to polka dance. Tony was a former parishioner of St. Hedwig Catholic Church and a current parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. A warmhearted man, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Tony is survived by his son, David Groch-Tochman; daughters, Dr. Janet Groch-Kellogg and Kathleen (Kevin) Mieczkowski; grandchildren, Kyle and Kelsie Mieczkowski; brother, Kenneth (Gloria) Groch; nephew, Kenneth (Linda) Groch Jr.; niece, Andrea (Darrin) Untermoser; many great-nieces and great-nephews; former wife, Rosemarie Lyczkowski; and dear friend, Cynthia Strong. He was preceded in death by his parents; and granddaughter, Kayla Elizabeth Mieczkowski.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 11 from 4-7 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The funeral service will begin at 7 p.m. with Rev. Francis J. Speier presiding.
