Barbara Jean Adamczak, age 89, of Toledo, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 13, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 4, 1937, in Toledo, OH to Donald and Blanche (Welter) Halpin Sr. Barbara was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, “Class of 1955”. She graduated from St. Vincent School of Nursing in 1958, earned a Bachelor of Science from St. Louis University in 1962, and received a master’s in nursing from the former Medical College of Ohio in 1991. A lifelong devoted nurse and nursing instructor, she taught obstetrics and gynecology at the St. Vincent School of Nursing as well as the University of Toledo, retiring in 2007.
Barbara was a former longtime parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where she was actively involved as a member of the Blessed Sacrament School Board and PTA, a Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader, and blood drive volunteer. She was also a member and 15-year trustee of the St. Vincent Alumni Association. She was a current parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Barbara was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother; always curious and up for trying a new adventure or recipe. She will be dearly missed.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Amy (Mike McCray) Adamczak and Andrea (Jim) Merillat; grandchildren, Darrah, Brenna, and Griffin Merillat; brothers, William Thomas Halpin, John Halpin, and Rev. “Phillip” Donald Halpin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane E. Adamczak; sister, Marjorie Zalewski; and brothers, James and Donald Halpin.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 19, from 3–8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., where the PRN Nurses Honor Guard will lead a tribute at 6:45 p.m., followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin Monday, July 20, at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
