Carl Heltzel Obituary

Carl Marion Heltzel, age 94, of Toledo, passed away peacefully at Oakleaf Village Monday, February 22, 2021. He was born April 1, 1926 in Mishawaka, IN to Lawrence and Pearl (Ruff) Heltzel.  Stepfather, Calvin Heltzel Sr. played a big part in his life. A WWII Veteran of the US Navy, Carl was employed as a truck driver for CCC Highway Trucking Co. for 30 years, and in retail sales for Hills, Ames, Kohls, and Dollar General, retiring at age 83. He was a longtime active member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he served as a board member, usher, handyman, and Sunday School teacher. He was a strong, independent man yet very caring and supportive. He enjoyed woodworking, which included large toy boxes for each of his grandchildren, and camping. We will never forget our annual family camping trips. Carl cherished his family, and his passion was spending time with them.  He will be greatly missed.

Carl is survived by his daughter, Mary (Scott) Rahrig; grandchildren, Richard (Shannon) Heltzel Jr., Shauna (Chad) Henning, Matthew (Joy) Rahrig, and Stephanie (David) Gardner;  and great-grandchildren, Ashleigh and Max Heltzel, Dusten, Bryce and Spencer Henning, and Addison Rahrig; many nieces and nephews; and 4 granddogs. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather; his wife Mary; son, Richard; brothers, Robert, John, and Calvin; and sisters, Pat and Joanne.
