Carol (Wrzesinski) Landin passed away on April 28 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio at the age of 79. She was born on April 23,1945 in Toledo to Theodore and Julia Wrzesinski, attended St. Hedwig elementary school and Woodward High School, and was a gymnast with the Polish Falcons. She began her career at Toledo Edison, where she met her future husband, Tom Landin. They married on August 8, 1964 and had two daughters. Carol volunteered at her childrens’ school, St. Catherine of Siena in Toledo, and she also served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, parish council representative, and retreat leader at St. Catherine Parish, as well as the editor of the parish newsletter.
Carol was a talented seamstress and crafter. When her children were young, she created many of their dresses and unique Halloween costumes, and she decorated their one-of-a-kind birthday cakes. For their weddings, she made each of their beautiful bridal and attendant bouquets by hand. Her favorite family vacations were to the beach where she could enjoy the sunshine and collect seashells. As her children grew, she returned to work and spent several years at the American Automobile Association (AAA) Ashland Avenue branch, and she later worked for the City of Toledo in the purchasing department and for city council at One Government Center.
In 1992, Carol and Tom moved to Perrysburg and became parishioners at St. Rose Parish. Carol continued volunteering there as she had at their previous parish. She also joined a bible study group and made many friends.
In 2007, Carol suffered a stroke which forced her to retire. She and Tom eventually moved back to Toledo, living at Alexis Gardens and enjoying the activities of retirement, especially playing cards and bingo. Carol also cherished time spent with their daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, sister Phyllis Sturek, and granddaughter Angela Lewandowski. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Tom; their daughters Cheryl (Michael) Lewandowski and Michele (Michael) Jurek; granddaughters Alyssa (Zach) Zeller, Ashley, Alexis, and Amanda Lewandowski, and Megan Jurek; great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Carson, and Riley Zeller; brothers Theodore and Edward Wrzesinski, sister-in-law Beth Colaner-Kenney, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation for Carol will be held Sunday, May 19 at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe (114 E. Alexis Rd. Toledo, OH 43612) from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral Mass will take place Monday, May 20 at St. Catherine of Siena Parish (4555 N. Haven Ave. Toledo, OH 43612) at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private.
Carol’s family is grateful to all of her caregivers throughout the years, especially the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. We find comfort in knowing that she is now pain free and at peace.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Central Catholic High School, the school her daughters and one of her granddaughters attended. Carol was a big fan of the Fighting Irish!
