Darlene Krohn Obituary

As written by her son, Joseph Ryan Krohn.

Darlene May Krohn was born February 9th, 1945 to Daryl and Freda Brock. My mother lived life on her terms and conducted this her way. She could be complex at times, difficult to take at times, depending on what her thoughts and or feelings were on a particular topic. This would result in straining some relationships with family and friends but you always knew where you stood with my mother, like it or not.

She wore many hats in life. She ran a steel press, built carburetors, ran a day-care at home, and was a book shelver for the Lucas County Public Library (retired). The accomplishments she was most proud of were being a wife to my father, mother to six children, grandmother and great grandmother to many and being an artist. My mother attended The University of Toledo studying arts and sciences. She restarted the Toledo Area Sculptors Guild in 1983, member of Toledo Federation of Art Society, The National League of American Pen Women, the Perrysburg Arts Council, Athena Art Society, and co-founder of Prism (Perrysburg Arts group) in 2005.

She enjoyed collaborating with like minded, creative individuals but liked making art with family the most. My mother loved her family even when some of the relations were strained, she always thought of her family. She would not let you go hungry or be homeless. I remember starting out in my first apartment which was down the road from my home I moved out of, she would help me with groceries, and if I was short on my rent she would help me with that too. We took vacations and always came home with rocks from our trips. As children, we had good experiences and a good life. She passed away peacefully, February 18th 2026 on Ash Wednesday.

My mother wanted to leave a legacy for people to see after she had passed. For her works to inspire and move people as her art intended to. I believe she accomplished this but not just in her artwork. Her legacy is left in all of us. All of our experiences with her and memories made, we will take with us to pass on and share. In the company of my sisters we share moments remembered of our parents and take them in. We laugh and remember some hallmark moments and the good times and carry their memory on with us to share with anyone that will listen.

Family and friends may gather for sharing memories and condolences on Wednesday, February 25 from 9:00 – 11:00 AM at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be given to Toledo Animal Rescue. Condolences can also be shared online at www.sujkowski.com.
