Deacon Paul J. White, age 79, formerly of Galloway Court, Sylvania, went home to Jesus peacefully on Thursday, September 5th, 2024. He was born in Toledo, OH on November 18, 1944, to Paul F. and Louise (Cukar) White. He married Barbara Borer on October 21, 1967.
Paul attended St Clement Grade School, Whitmer High School, and received an associate’s degree in accounting from Davis Business College. He worked for 30 years as an accountant for Owens Illinois, and following his retirement in 1999, returned to work as an accountant for the Catholic Chronicle and the Diocese of Toledo. A Veteran of the US Army Reserves, Paul reached the rank of Master Sargent, E8, retiring after 20 years of service. He was a cub scout and boy scout growing up and later became a scout leader over the troop his sons belonged to. After their son Jeffrey’s death, Paul and Barbara became involved in a support group for parents who had lost children. Later they became co-facilitators of “Our Children Remembered” at St Joseph Catholic Parish, Sylvania. Paul was ordained as a Deacon on May 20, 2000 at Our Lady Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral. In the past few years, due to his declining health, he was placed on senior status.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey; wife, Barbara; and great grandson, Saul. He is survived by his daughter, Lori (Jeff) Hubbard; son, Christopher (Alysia) White; sister, Patricia (Rocky) Warner; grandchildren, Bianca and Brielle White, Maddy (Kyle) Fox, Brittany Hubbard, Jeffrey Hubbard Jr., and Brandon (Breanna) Hubbard; and great-grandsons, Elias and Parker Zilba, and Samuel and Antonio Hubbard. Also surviving are niece, Andrea; nephews, Chad and Kyle Warner; and their families.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 12 from 2-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, September 13 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sylvania preceded by visitation at the church from 9 - 10 a.m. Interment with Military Honors led by the VFW 606 Burial Corps will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
