Dennis Hunt Obituary

Dennis "Denny" Merton Hunt, age 84, orginally of Warren, OH and most recently of Aurora, OH, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Woodlands Independent Living at Otterbein Sunset House in Toledo, OH. He was born October 24, 1940, in Warren, OH to Leonard and Annetta (McCorkle) Hunt. Denny was a graduate of Howland High School in Warren, OH. He retired from General Motors in Lordstown, OH as an assembler, inspector, and maintenance worker. Before that he worked for Copperweld Steel in Warren, OH. Periodically, he would work at his father-in-law’s and wife’s family-owned hardware store Hamilton & Meigs, Inc.

Denny was an experienced Amateur Ham Radio Operator receiving his Advanced license in 1977; he was fluent in Morse Code and enjoyed connecting with fellow ham operators across the world. Denny was quite handy. He loved building and repairing things. He had a natural ability to troubleshoot, take small engines and mechanical devices apart, then repair and clean parts, and reassemble them. He was an excellent swimmer. He loved being near water and being outdoors. In his younger years, he loved going on Boy Scout adventures and taking his boat out on Mosquito Lake. Denny loved camping with his family and enjoyed every type of camping from basic tent to travel trailer. He loved to sit by a campfire and visit with fellow campers he met on their many family excursions. He and Jean host-camped at Maumee Bay State Park for eight years which was a great way for them to meet and help campers, plus spend time with their daughter, Jill, and granddaughters, Sam and Emily. Denny was an avid Cleveland sports fan, rarely missing the Indians, Browns, and Cavaliers games on television. Denny was known to many for making his Grandma Hunt's pancake recipe, just how she did when he was growing up, always topped with local Amish maple syrup. A devoted husband, proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife (and high school sweetheart) of 63 years, Jean (Thomas) Hunt whom he married on September 23, 1961; his loving daughter, Jill (Paul) Hunt, granddaughters, Sam (Cristian) and Emily Gonia, and great granddaughter, Isabelle "Izzy" Roughton; son Phil (Chris) Hunt and grandson, Bryan; son Jeff (Debbie) Hunt and granddaughters, Ellie, Laura, and Sarah Hunt; and his dear brother, Rick Hunt.

A graveside committal service will be held on Friday, January 17th at 1:00 pm at Pineview Memorial Park, 4049 Youngstown Rd., SE, Warren, OH 44484 with Rev. Erica Brown officiating. The family will greet friends and family on Saturday, January 18th from 10:00am-1:00 pm at Howland Community Church, 198 Niles Cortland Rd. SE, Warren, OH 44484, 330-856-3628.
