Donald Lee “Mac” McManus, age 83, formerly of Kipling Dr. in Toledo passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Genacross Lutheran Services Wolf Creek Campus surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 21, 1940 in Cleveland, OH to Herschel and Mary Magdalene (Welch) McManus. Mac was a graduate of Howe Military Academy, Ottawa Hills High School, Class of 1959, and attended the University of Toledo. He was employed as a lab tech and paint specialist for DuPont Chemical and Paint for 28 years, retiring from there in 1993. He was also a licensed massage therapist, having completed his training in 1995. Mac had many talents and hobbies including jewelry making, treasure tracking, woodworking, and gardening, and was owner and operator of “Mac’s Gun Shop”. An avid reader, he loved biographies and James Patterson murder mysteries. He was a member of AA and a “friend of Bill”. Mac was a longtime parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and an active volunteer at parish festivals and fish fries. He was also known to be a helpful and friendly neighbor, often snowplowing all the neighbors’ walkways. He will be dearly missed.
Mac is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary (Welzbacher) McManus; daughters, Kelly (Mike Stevens) Streichert, Bethany McManus, and Deborah (Steven) Matthews; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and sister, Joyce Scarborough. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Makayla Rose Haslett; great-grandson, Parker James Brubacker; sister, Susan Ann Henry; and former wife, Nancy (Morton) McManus.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 12 from 3-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., with a scripture service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin Monday at 9:45 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in St. Catherine of Siena Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Temperance, MI.
