God welcomed his humble servant “Don” into his glorious arms on March 11, 2022 and was reunited with his parents, Frederick John and Helen Louise (Mercurio) Schmoekel. While on earth, he showed what it truly means to be a Godly, kind, loving and family Man. He was a 1966 graduate of DeVilbiss High School where he met the love of his life, his wife of 53 years, Debbra Starr (Challen) Schmoekel on their senior trip to New York. He was a 50 years meat cutter - 40 plus years at Foodtown, and finishing his career at Save-A-Lot and Zavotski Custom Meats & Deli. He worshiped the Lord with his wife at “Compelled” Church. Don was an avid collector of flashlights and pocketknives. In his quiet time, he enjoyed reading e-books with his wife and watching YouTube videos on the outdoors.
To cherish and to continue his legacy are his wife, Debbra; their children, Carri Elizabeth (Steven) Eichenberg and Matthew Donald (Audrey) Schmoekel; grandchildren, Donald “DJ”, Sean, Hunter, Mason, Samuel, Emmaline and Gracie; brother, William (Debbie) Schmoekel; niece and nephews, Tara (Adam), Brad (Melissa) and Erik (Jamie); cousins, Maryann Noah and Joseph (Sue) Mercurio and many friends.
Visitation will be Monday, March 14 from 3-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Frank Zychowicz presiding.
Special thanks to Dr. Simo, Dr. Hussein and the medical team at Toledo Hospital. Memorial donations may be given to the family. Condolences may be shared at www.sujkowski.com.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23
