Douglas James Hipp, Age 66, of Toledo passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Flower Hospital, Sylvania. He was born on February 2, 1957 in Toledo, OH to George and Agnes (Polston) Hipp. Doug was a graduate of Whitmer High School, “Class of ‘78” and a Veteran of the US Air Force. He began his 40-year career in law enforcement as a police officer with the Washington Township Police Department before becoming a Deputy Sheriff with the Lucas County Sheriff’s Department, serving as a Building Security Officer, a Road Deputy primarily in Springfield Township, and his last two years as a Corrections Officer at the Lucas County Jail. Doug was admired for his dedication to serving and protecting the citizens of Lucas County. An exemplary employee, he never hesitated to take on any job he was given. He was well liked by his supervisors and coworkers and worked well with the public. A “motorhead” mechanic, Doug enjoyed working on classic cars in his free time. He also was an active volunteer for the Paws & Whiskers cat shelter. A good man and friend to many, he will be dearly missed.
Doug is survived by his brother, Jeffrey Hipp; sister, Roberta Hipp; half-brother, Andrew Chance; special niece, Heather Nicole Hipp; dear friends, Terri and George; and many other friends and coworkers. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Wendy Hipp.
Friends and family may gather on Thursday, September 21 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. Visitation will conclude with tributes led by the Lucas County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard and the VFW 606 Honor Guard.
