Duane E. Adamczak, age 88, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 23, 1937 in Toledo, OH to Edmund and Florence (Sujkowski) Adamczak. Duane was a graduate of the University of Toledo where he earned his bachelor's degree in business. A US Army Veteran, he served in the Intelligence Corps from 1960-62. He was employed at Toledo Edison for 37 years, retiring as a duplicating supervisor in 1994. After his retirement he worked at Bill’s variety store in the Edison Building, at the Learning Express toy store for 2 years, and at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe. Duane was a longtime parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member and contributing writer for the church newspaper committee. Later, he and his wife Barb became parishioners of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Duane enjoyed cooking and baking and traveling with his dear friends Don and Carimeá·„ Kellermeier and Chuck and Carolyn Poffenbaugh. He loved music, especially showtunes, polkas, and the “Moonlight Sonata”. He was also a terrific dancer, singer, and whistler. A loving husband, father, and grandfather who was blessed with a delightful sense of humor and friendly outgoing demeanor, he will be dearly missed.
Duane is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Barbara (Halpin) Adamczak; daughters Amy (Mike McCray) Adamczak and Andrea (Jim) Merillat; grandchildren Darrah, Brenna, and Griffin; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Milton John Adamczak in 2022; and faithful canine companions, “Shasta” and “Carlie”.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 28 from 3-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin on Monday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in St. Pius X Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
