Edith “Edie” Claire Esper, age 59, of Temperance, MI passed away at home on Sunday, February 22, 2026. She was born on March 28, 1966 in Toledo, OH to Charles Roy and Kathleen (Glover) Esper. Edie was a graduate of Smith Road Elementary School, Bedford High School “Class of 1984”, and attended Monroe Community College. She worked as a home health care aide for 30 years, retiring in 2025. After high school, Edie joined the Monroe Police Explorer program. A longtime parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Toledo, she currently attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance, MI.
Three and a half years ago, Edie moved in with her mother Kathleen to become her primary caregiver. She took care of all the errands and household chores, and took pride in keeping the yard looking nice, including growing dahlias – her favorite flower. She loved cooking with her mother and learning all the family recipes. She also enjoyed following the Dallas Cowboys and Michigan Wolverines, and sharing special Sunday dinners with her dear friend, Pat G. Edie was happiest spending time with her extended family, especially her uncles and younger cousins. Family get-togethers at their cottage on Harsen’s Island were her favorite.
Edie was preceded in death by her father, Charles; sister, Julie Esper; and favorite cat “Miko”. She is survived by her mother, Kathleen; brothers, Eric and David (Amy) Esper; niece, Elizabeth Esper; and many extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 5 from 3-7 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The funeral service will be Friday, March 6 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Deacon James Dudley presiding. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Temperance, MI.
