Elfrieda Sophia "Freddie" Swyers

Elfrieda Sophia “Freddie” Swyers, age 92, of Erie, MI passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Grand Rapids Health Care, Grand Rapids, OH with her loving family by her side. She was born on January 25, 1932 in Toledo, OH to Frank and Erna (Nagel) Szeve. A graduate of Woodward High School, she was an elevator operator at Lamson’s Department Store in Downtown Toledo for 6 years, and an “Avon Lady” for 30 years. Freddie was primarily a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved caring for her family and home, whether cooking wonderful meals, tending her garden, decorating her home for the holidays, or getting coffee for Chuck - her beloved husband of 64 years. She was actively involved in the PTA at Whittier Grade School when her children were young. She enjoyed dancing and family gatherings. Always vivacious and loving, she touched the lives of not only her family and many friends over the years, but her fellow residents and caregivers at Grand Rapids Health Care where she resided the past 5 years.

Freddie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Christian Swyers Jr.; son, Charles Christian Swyers III; and siblings, Heinz Szeve, Bessie Risner, and Elvera Flood. She is survived by her daughters, Laurie (Mary) Swyers and Beth (Tom) Maenle; adopted daughter, Sonya Carnicom; grandchildren, Chuckie, Chelsea, Leah, Tylre, Nash, and Autumn; and great-grandchildren, Kain, Renoa, Marth, Ephram, Chase, Rylee, Thomas, Lincoln, Jager, and Roman.

Visitation will be Friday, February 2 from 9-10:30 a.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd.  The Funeral Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Chaplain Heather Gillen presiding. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.

Freddie’s family would like to thank the caregivers of Grand Rapids Healthcare and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their attentive care and emotional support.
