Elizabeth "Betty" Smenner

Elizabeth J. “Betty” Smenner, age 94, of Hickory Ridge, Temperance, MI, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio’s Ebeid Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 11, 1929 in Detroit, MI to Cecil and Erin (Barry) Brintnell. Betty was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. She worked as a bartender and loved it, especially her 29 years at the former Dog House Bar & Grill. She is most fondly remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker with a great smile. Betty was a parishioner of Regina Coeli Catholic Church and School. When her girls were young, she constantly volunteered at the school and continued serving her community later in life as a member of the church Altar Rosary Society. Betty was passionate about spending time with her friends, but most important to her were the memories made with family. She had a mobile home in Naples, FL for over 30 years, where she enjoyed company in the sunshine.  Betty will be deeply missed by all who knew her. 

Betty is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (Michael) Dorn, Carol (Dale) Morin, Connie (Jeff) Morrow, Chris (Ray) Tunison, Kim (Mark) Osborne, Peggy George, Michelle (Tim) Purcell, and Lisa (Jeff) Smith; 23 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Smenner; daughter, Susie Smenner; great-granddaughter, Ava Morin; significant other for 42 years, Ed Fleischmann; and sister, Peggy Barry.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 21 from 5-8 p.m. in Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., where members of the Regina Coeli Altar Rosary Society will lead a rosary at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Regina Coeli Church. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
