Frederick Bodmer Jr. Obituary

Frederick George “Fred” Bodmer Jr., age 79, of Toledo, passed peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 23, 1943 in Toledo, OH to Frederick George and Phyllis (Scott) Bodmer Sr. Fred attended Whitmer High School and after his senior year enlisted in the Air Force. He served as an MP from 1960 to 1964 in Plattsburg, New York, and Okinawa. When he came home, he enrolled in the Millwright Apprenticeship program, and then worked for GM Powertrain for 13 years. He worked out of the Millwright Union #1393 for over 40 years, the last 5 years as a supervisor at Dunbar Mechanical and retired in 2004. During his apprenticeship, Fred met his wife of 56 years Kathleen Kennedy at Benny’s Bull Fiddle, the bar that his cousin owned. They spent their lives sailing and boating on Lake Erie at North Cape Yacht Club, camping in Michigan, and at the end going to his favorite place - The Lodge in Ludington, Michigan. An avid camper, boater, traveler, and “Buckeye” fan, Fred worked hard and played hard. He was a 49-year parishioner of Regina Coeli Catholic Church.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Kathleen (Kennedy) Bodmer. He and Kathleen were lucky to have 3 children: Kelly (Randy) Ross, Frederick (Stacey) Bodmer III, and Katie (Jason) Fulop. He was crazy about his grandkids: Emma Bodmer, Catherine Ross, Connor Fulop, Mackenna Ross, Grace Fulop, Jack Fulop, and Miranda Fulop. Also surviving are his niece, Annette Heilner and nephews, Ronnie Heilner and Billy Heilner. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donette Heilner; and two favorite canines, Reggie and George.

The funeral Mass for Fred will be Saturday, April 22 at 11 a.m. in Regina Coeli Catholic Church where the family will greet friends from 10- 11 a.m. Services will conclude with Military Honors led by the VFW 606 Burial Corps at the church.
