George Edward Young, age 74, of Toledo passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. He was born April 2, 1946 in Toledo, OH to Ralph and Genevieve (Cashman) Young. George attended DeVilbiss High School and graduated from Start High School. He was employed as a letter carrier for the USPS Franklin Park Station for 33 years, retiring from there at age 55. A Veteran of the US Marine Corps, George served in the Vietnam War. He later joined the Ohio Army National Guard and during Operation Desert Storm, was called into service with the 323rd Military Police in Frankfurt, Germany. He retired as a Master Sergeant.
George was a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council 3122 and served as their financial secretary. He enjoyed working out at Wildwood Gym, playing golf, recreational shooting at the gun range, and visiting casinos. A devoted family man and a terrific cook, he loved preparing breakfast for his family. He was a parishioner of Regina Coeli Catholic Church.
George is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Janet (Sopher) Young (married September 4, 1974); daughter, Erin Hitts; son, Sean Young; grandchildren, Lauren, Anna, Sarah, and Joel Hitts; sister, Beverly Stagg; special nephew, Ralph Stagg; and special cousin, Mary Galvin. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 30 from 2-6 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. with a scripture service at 5 p.m. Funeral services will begin Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in Regina Coeli Church at 10 a.m. The VFW 606 Burial Corps will conclude with Military Honors at the church.
