George William Green Jr., age 77, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026 at the Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 27, 1948, in Toledo, OH to George and Joann (Alice Joan McColough) Green Sr. George was a 1967 graduate of Whitmer High School and a Veteran of the US Navy, having served on the USS Passumpsic fuel freighter. He worked for the Lucas County Sanitary Engineers for over 30 years, retiring as a Project Inspector in 2011. He was also a proud 2nd generation firefighter with the Washington Township (Shoreland) Fire Department #72, having served for 54 years.
George was a member of VFW Post 606 and member and past Commander of VFW Post 3265. He was highly involved with the Washington Township Fire Department and portrayed Santa on the "Polar Express" during the Christmas season. He enjoyed playing poker each month with his poker buddies. He was also a huge NASCAR fan and for many years had season tickets to Michigan International Speedway. George was a cancer survivor who rang the Victory Bell at the ProMedica Hickman Center on September 10, 2025. He appreciated life and those around him, treating everyone he met with kindness. To him no one was a stranger.
George is survived by his loving Honey, Fay “Bobbi” Kohn; daughters, Heather Bacon, Emily (Clint) White III, and Molly (Alex) Rohr; grandchildren, Alexandra (Tyler) Ross, Avery Bacon, Clinton White IV, Nora White, Emmett Rohr, William “Liam” White, and Oliver Rohr; great-granddaughter, Sybil Ross; stepsons, Scott (Sandi Hedden) Kohn and Randy Kohn; special family member, Kris Shull; and many step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Green and sister, Peggy Green.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 12 from 2-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., where members of Washington Twp. Fire Dept. 72 will lead the Last Alarm Ceremony at 7 p.m. The Funeral Service will be Monday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Chaplain John Henry presiding. Interment with Military Honors led by VFW Post 606 will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
