Helen Marie Yglesias

Helen Marie Yglesias, age 89, formerly of Toledo, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 2, 1936, in Toledo, OH to Louis and Sarah (Parker) LaPlante. Helen was a graduate of Waite High School. She served as a food service coordinator and manager for the Toledo Board of Education for 30 years before retiring in 1998. A longtime parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, she was also a member and past President of the Northwood VFW 2984 Auxiliary.

Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker. She was an excellent cook and talented crafter who enjoyed working with ceramics and making chocolate candies. Generous with her time, she volunteered often and was always ready to help others.

elen is survived by her daughters, Rose Yglesias, Janice Yglesias, Regina Herrera, and Donna (Tim) Keeler; brother, James LaPlante; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank Yglesias in 1973; her sons, Frank Jr., Gary, and Richard; grandsons, Jesse, James, Mason, and Corey Yglesias; brothers, Arthur, Joseph, Louis, Francis, Thomas, Henry, George, and Gerald LaPlante; and sisters, Catherine Lenz, Louise Halas, Clara Wise, Rita Bielawski, Sarah Lozinski, Eva Huntzinger, and Laura Poiry.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 19 from 3-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, May 20 at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 434 Western Ave., Toledo, OH 43609. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.  

Helen will be remembered for her resilient strength, her generosity and fun-loving personality and great sense of humor.
