Hortencia Portillo Soto

  Hortencia (Portillo) Soto of Toledo, Ohio went home to be with her Savior & Lord Jesus Christ surrounded by her children on Monday, January 11, 2021. Hortencia (Portillo) Soto was born on April 13, 1932 in Kerrville, Texas to Regino & Delfina Portillo.  Hortencia was the former owner of Los Amigos Restaurant in Toledo, Ohio. Through all her years of working, she made every effort to attend her children's school events, worked with Girl Scouts and worked as a Care Giver for the Area Office of Aging till she was 80 years old.  She enjoyed music from “Dust in the Wind” (Kansas) to “Amazing Grace”.  She enjoyed cooking for friends and family, crocheting, word puzzles, caring for her plants, and loving on her pets “Jake”, “Walley”, & “Pearly”. Hortencia loved traveling, especially for family events.  Many unforgettable memories were made at Sunset Blvd. and will be carried on. She treated friends like family and strangers like friends.

  Hortencia is survived by her siblings: Christina Garcia, Olivia Lopez, and Linda Little; brothers: Henry Portillo and Ernie (Sherri) Portillo; children: Rosemary, Susan (Florencio) Amaya, John (Sylvia) Soto Jr., Olga Soto, Rebecca (Felipe) Rivera, Ruben (Diane) Soto, Celia (Mark) Snyder, Priscilla Soto (Karena), George (Lynn) Soto, Sophia (Mitch) Berg, and Maria (Scott) Decker; and her many, many precious grandchildren, great grandchildren, and last great grandchild to be born, Hannah Hortencia Soto.

  Hortencia was preceded in death by her husband, Juan C. Soto; son, Camilito Soto; parents: Regino & Delphina Portillo; and brothers, Pedro, Paul, and Tony Portillo.

She will be dearly missed by all who loved her dearly!

  Visitation will be Thursday, January 14 from 3-7 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., with a scripture service at 6:30 p.m.  Funeral services will begin Friday at 9:15 a.m. with prayers in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in St. Adalbert Catholic Church at 10 a.m.  A private committal service will take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

  Those paying their respects are asked to keep their visit brief, wear a facial covering and respect social distancing guidelines.
