Irving Johnson Obituary

Irving Keith Johnson, age 92, of Toledo and formerly of 118th Street in Point Place passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Ebeid Hospice, Sylvania surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he loved being with his family and hosting countless holiday gatherings with his wife Mary.

Irving was born on January 17, 1931 in Alpena, MI to Ronald and Genevieve (Edgley) Johnson. He was a graduate of Alpena High School and a Veteran of the US Marine Corps. He received his training as a telegrapher at the Gale Institute in Minneapolis, MN and was employed as a telegrapher for the Ann Arbor and ConRail Railroads for 42 years, retiring in 1992. He also worked as a meat-cutter for Shinners Meats and the Red & White Supermarket in Toledo. He was a member and union steward of B.R.A.C.(the Brotherhood of Railroad, Airline, and Steamship Clerks). He enjoyed bowling, softball, and volleyball, and kept active into his later years.

Irving is survived by his children, Mark K. Johnson, Janet S. (Timothy) Pinkelman, Jeffrey M. (Kathleen) Johnson, Timothy A. (Karen) Johnson, Daniel J. (Mary Alice) Johnson, Christopher D. (David Eickemeyer) Johnson, and Kevin P. (LeeAnna Shepherd) Johnson; grandchildren, Allison Campbell, Ryan (Jill) Johnson, Jennifer Pinkelman, Katherine Pinkelman (Cameron Jurkowski), Brittney (Shannon Poore) Johnson, Ashley Johnson, Taylor Johnson, and Matthew Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Camryn Campbell, Evelyn Johnson, Lillian Johnson, Finley Johnson, and Oscar Irving Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary (Horner) Johnson; and great-grandson, Carson Campbell.

Private visitation will be Wednesday, September 27 at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 419-476-9176. Interment with Military Honors led by the VFW 606 Burial Corps will be in Calvary Cemetery.
