James Dziewiatka Obituary

James Philip Dziewiatka, “Jimmy 9”, “Niner”, “Jim”, “Jimmy”, 78, of Toledo, passed on to be with the Lord in Heaven on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania.

Jim was born on August 29, 1943, in Toledo, OH to John and Eleanor (Maciejewski) Dziewiatka. Jim graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School in 1961 and attended the University of Indiana on a full golf scholarship. He was employed as a City of Toledo Police Patrolman for 10 years. A charter parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, he remained an active member at the parish throughout his lifetime. He was an Altar Server and member of various committees. Jim was so excited to have been recently asked to speak readings in Polish during mass.

Jim loved the game of golf and was an avid and scratch golfer throughout his lifetime. If he wasn’t playing, he was watching the pros on tv. He also thoroughly enjoyed cooking Polish food for friends and family, and for St. Adalbert’s. He was happy to share his authentic Polish meals at parish festivals and various other parish occasions and was always sure to bring Kielbasa and Kapusta to family gatherings. Jim was a huge fan of The Ohio State University football team, and watched every single game faithfully, providing his own commentary along the way. He had an affection for telling funny (he knew they were not funny) “dad” jokes. On special occasions with family and friends, Jim loved to enjoy one martini that he sipped for hours. Jim loved his family and his friends dearly. He never knew a stranger. Jim cherished his grandkids, and treasured spending time with them. Giving them hugs, hearing about school and the multiple sports they were involved in, and getting updates on their social lives brought him much laughter and joy.

Jim is survived by his former wife, Constance (Koralewski) of New Albany, OH; his daughters, Amy (Jeffrey) Meade of Lancaster, OH, and Jennifer (Thomas) Salamon of Pataskala, OH; his grandchildren, Joshua (“Joshy”), Emma (“Emms”), and Allison (“Gertie”) Salamon; and many cousins and dear friends.

Visitation will be held at 9:00 am on Wednesday, February 2nd, at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 3233 Lagrange St, Toledo, OH. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Adalbert at 10 a.m. followed by the committal service at Calvary Cemetery.
