James Patrick Jurkiewicz I, age 71, of Monroe, MI and formerly of Toledo, OH and Erie, MI, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026. He was born on June 19, 1954 in Toledo, OH to William and Joan (Pawlaczyk) Jurkiewicz. James was a 1972 graduate of Woodward High School. A semi-truck driver by trade, he was hard-working and got satisfaction from owning his own businesses throughout the years, including MRS Transport which he ran for over 10 years. He was a member of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Rossford, OH. When he was a young man, he enjoyed dancing at the annual church festival.
James’s parents owned Pete’s Market on Stickney Ave, and he learned to cook authentic Polish cuisine growing up there. He made his own kielbasa and golumpki, and often cooked Sunday roast beef dinners for his family. He also enjoyed bowling on a league with his friends, fishing, boating, and Indy car racing.
James is survived by his children, Linda (John) Hoot, Corey (Alicia) Jurkiewicz, Nicholas (Crystal) Jurkiewicz, Jimmy (partner Patrick Slinglend) Jurkiewicz II, and Alex (Bridget) Jurkiewicz; grandchildren, Zachary McFaul, Audrey McFaul, MJ Jurkiewicz, August Jurkiewicz, Kayla Jurkiewicz, Corey Jurkiewicz, Olivia Jurkiewicz, Emma Jurkiewicz, Owen Jurkiewicz, and Blair Jurkiewicz. Also surviving are his brother, Dan (Julie) Jurkiewicz; and niece, Angela Kirby. He was preceded in death by his parents.
