Janet Gorka

Janet Gorka, age 87, of Lambertville, MI, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at the Toledo Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 29, 1938 in Toledo, OH to Stanley and Emma (Baughey) Powell. She worked in Accounts Payable at the Toledo Hospital for 10 years, retiring at age 60, and before that in bookkeeping for Western Union. She was a former parishioner of St. Clement Catholic Church, and a current parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Toledo. A woman of devout faith, she prayed for everyone all the time.

Janet loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker. In her later years, her family was her hobby. A great cook, she was known for her comforting homestyle meals as well as her love for bread with every meal. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching her favorite TV series, especially “Perry Mason” and “Murder She Wrote”.  She was always helping others - people as well as animals in need. She is already missed by her family and friends, and her pets – “Rayne” and “Fifi”.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Regina (Bill) Johnson; son, Matthew Gorka; grandchildren, Alexis and Isabella Gorka; great granddaughter, Ivy Kosuth; sister, Joan (Herb) Baker; brother, Frederick Powell; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John “Jack” Gorka in 2016; sisters, Shirley Perkins, Barbara Barlow, Patricia Powell, Judy Lyons, and Joyce Micheals; and brothers, Robert “Bud” Powell, John Powell, and Stanley Powell Jr.

Visitation will be Friday, February 20 from 4-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., with a rosary at 7 p.m.  Funeral services will begin on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. with prayers in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 628 Locust St., Toledo, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery.
