Janet Louise Young

Janet Louise Young, age 77, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Ebeid Hospice of Sylvania surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on June 10, 1946 in Carey, OH to Willis and Dolores (Wisner) Sopher.  Janet was a graduate of Carey High School and Toledo Hospital School of Nursing.  In 1967 she began her nursing career at Toledo Hospital’s Orthopedic Unit and later became a lead Surgical Nurse, finally retiring in 2010 after 43 years of service.  Janet was a member of both The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses and the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses Foundation.  She also belonged to the Toledo Hospital Golf League, where she enjoyed golfing with all the other nurses at Ottawa Park, Tamaron, Bedford, Maple Grove, and Giant Oak golf courses.  In fact, on August 28, 1996, she had a hole-in-one at Ottawa Park.  Janet was a parishioner of Regina Coeli Catholic Church.  A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, this true treasure will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Janet is survived by her daughters, Erin Hitts and Lisa O’Neill Berning; son, Sean (Leo Lewis) Young; grandchildren, Lauren, Anna, Sarah, and Joel Hitts; and nephew, Ralph (Krista) Stagg.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, George Young.

Visitation will be Monday, July 10 from 3-7 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., where the Professional Registered Nurse Honor Guard will present a final tribute and vigil service at 6:30 p.m.  The Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday in Regina Coeli Church at 11 a.m.  Interment will be held at a later date in Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey, OH.
