Joan Stalka, 96, of Toledo, OH, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 7, 1928 in Toledo, the youngest of nine siblings. After graduating from high school, she worked as a cashier for LaSalle’s Department Store for 6 years.
Joan married the love of her life, Roman Stalka, in 1955, and enjoyed 49 wonderful years together, until Roman passed away in November of 2004. After marrying Roman, she devoted her time to her family and enjoyed tending to her ferns and nurturing her garden and flowering bushes. Joan enjoyed traveling with her husband and visited many interesting places, including New York, Florida, California, Las Vegas, and Poland, where some of her husband’s relatives reside. Joan will be remembered by all who knew her as a soft-spoken, kind, thoughtful, gentle person who always enjoyed social gatherings. She loved her family, and she loved the Lord Jesus Christ.
Joan is survived by her nieces, Diane (Jim) Parritt, Darlene Czerniak, Carol Boggs, and Janet (Ron) Gries; stepson, Roman Stalka Jr. and step-grandchildren, Anthony Stalka and Jenell Stalka, all of Florida; cousin, John Wlodarczyk and his wife Constance; their daughters, Audrey and Lisa Flowers and 4 grandchildren; special friend Linda Sites; and many more nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, loving family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roman; sisters, Sophia Zaborowski, Antoinette Carlton, Mary Schodowski, Ann Rosinski, Cecelia Czerniak; and brothers, Frank, James, and John Zerucha.
Visitation will be Monday, April 29 from 2-6 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. with praying of the rosary at 5 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, April 30 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 6149 Hill Ave., preceded by visitation at the church from 10-11 a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
