John Lee “Jack” Binder, age 90, formerly of Temperance Michigan, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 26th, 2022 at Kingston Residence of Sylvania. He was born January 30, 1932 in Toledo, OH to Gustave and Helen (Lee) Binder. Jack was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and attended the University of Toledo. He was a Veteran of the US Air Force. He began his early career pedaling an ice cream wagon around the Old West End then with First Federal Savings and Loan eventually serving as President. Jack was a longtime parishioner of Regina Coeli Catholic Church, a member of their Holy Name Society, an active volunteer at church festivals, an usher, and a member of the finance committee. He also enjoyed golfing with the Regina Coeli Golf League. Other memberships included the St. Vincent de Paul Society serving as President of the board of directors and the Knights of Columbus. A passionate travel enthusiast, he and his wife Evelyn were able to visit nearly 100 countries via countless cruises but his true passion was chocolate; he never went a day without it.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Evelyn Kuchinski Binder. He is survived by his children, Carol (Greg) Smietanski and John Binder (Chris Taylor); grandchildren, Forrest (Yvonne) Smietanski, Taylor (Connor) Bolazina, and Meredith Smietanski; brothers, Richard (Kathy) Binder, Jim (Lillian) Binder; and sisters, Susan (Dave) Nowak and Mary (Sonny) Brooks.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 2 from 4-7 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. Funeral services will begin Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in Regina Coeli Church at 10 a.m. Interment with Military Honors led by the VFW 606 Burial Corps will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
