John Edwin Niese

John Edwin “Fred” Niese, age 63, of Lambertville, MI passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Mercy St. Anne Hospital. He was born May 15, 1959 in Toledo, OH to Leo and Nancy (Nowak) Niese. John was a graduate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Grade School and Bowsher High School. He was employed as a master mechanic at Lays Transmission on Phillips Ave. for 37 years, and most recently at Midway Products for 7 years. He was a former parishioner of OLPH Catholic Church.

John loved working on cars and was an expert in automotive parts and repair – a true “Mr. Mopar”. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and family man. He enjoyed getting together with family and friends, especially when he could utilize his cooking skills hosting outdoor barbeques. Always willing to lend a hand to those in need, John was a devoted caregiver to his wife Bonnie during her long illness. He also loved to travel and enjoyed frequent trips out West with Bonnie.  

John was preceded in death by his parents; and by his beloved wife and best friend, Bonnie Jean (Genung) Niese in 2019. Surviving are his sons, Joshua (Rebecca Ehrick) Godfrey, John (Ashlee) Niese, and Kristopher (April) Godfrey; grandchildren, Malcolm Godfrey, Eleanor Ehrick, Aaron, Adam, and Ashton Godfrey; 1 great-grandson; brother, Michael (Elaine) Niese; and sister, Linda (Larry) Botnick.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 9 from 3-7 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd.  The funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastors Jeff Sheeks and Kyle Metdepenningen presiding. Inurnment will be at a later date in Toledo Memorial Park.
