Jose Medina-Zapata Obituary

Today we celebrate and honor the life of Jose Rosario Medina Zapata. We were blessed to have him for 67 years. He peacefully passed away March 4, 2022 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio’s Toledo facility, time 8:54 a.m. while he was in his wife's arms surrounded by his beloved family. Jose was born on September 9, 1954 in Ranchito De Coronados, San Luis Potosi, Mexico to his parents Jose Felimon and Tuburcia (Martinez) Medina. Jose received Christ in his life at a very young age. He was a member of Santo Nino in Ranchito De Coronados. When he moved to Toledo Ohio he became a faithful member to St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He later married Carol Vasquez on November 17, 1995 and renewed their vows February 4, 2017 at his longtime parishioner of Santo Nino in Ranchito De Coronados for his mothers last dying wish. Unto their union 8 children were born. Jose was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and family man to many others.

Jose lived as a lifelong rancher, butcher, worked in a factory , got into construction and later became an entrepreneur. When Jose was old enough he purchased his ranch and land , became a livestock dealer and farmer selling cows, goats, sheeps, corn, and beans. One of the things he purchased but never sold was horses. He adored them just as much as he adored his one gray bull that is still living on the ranch. When he came to the U.S. he lived in Austin, TX worked at U.S. Ice Company, later his primo Nacho insisted him to come to Toledo, Ohio and he worked at Pro-pak Industries for over 10 years long. Later on in life he purchased a Well Drilling truck and started his water business in Mexico. He then got into semi trade businesses and he retired 8 years ago. Jose was a loving, caring, sweet, ambitious, compassionate, generous, persistent, reliable, sincere person. He had a heart full of diamonds and strongly believed in God.

Jose was always happy and willing to help everyone. Jose enjoyed watching bull-riders, rooster fights and loved going fishing and heading to the Casino and long walks. His favorite wine was Roscato. Jose was also known as Chalo, his childhood nickname. In his early days on a special night Jose ended up at  Las Palmas. He enjoyed dancing and that is when he met the most beautiful, talented and amazing woman Carol. Slowly he would bring clothes to her house and eventually moved into her home and lived a beautiful life with many kids. Jose really loved animals. He loved them so much he would call his own kids animales! Jose will be greatly missed by his loved ones. He was an amazing role model, he was someone to look up to. He favored his grandkids in many ways, loved his wife unconditionally and his kids were always by his side.

Survived by: His loving wife Carol Medina, along with his kids Oscar (Laura) Medina, Salina Vasquez (Ruben Rodriguez), Estefana (Joseph) Thomkins, Erica Vasquez (Alonzo Castilla), Jose (Alexis) Medina, Angelica Medina, Migel Medina, and Antonia Medina (Jibri Newsom); and grandkids Nate, Sant, Valera, Alonzo Jr, Lena, Oscar Jr, Amiliana, Ricardo, Salina, Jose Jr, Sedrick, Emily, Alona, Aliza, and unborn Baby Journey.
