Joseph John Czop, 78, of Lambertville, MI, formerly of Toledo, OH passed away on December 27, 2021. Son of the late Bronislaw and Balbina Czop, Joe emmigrated from Grodzisko Górne, Poland when he was 5 and proudly became a naturalized citizen when he was 7. Joe was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of ‘62 and The University of Toledo. He was a long time employee of Champion Spark Plug, retiring from Daimler Chrysler, and still enjoyed monthly luncheons with both. Joe knew no strangers, making friends with everyone that he met. He was a fiercely loyal husband, father, grandfather, teacher and friend who always put others before himself. Recognizing the importance of family time, he loaded up the wife and kids for many camping adventures that evolved as they grew older into a passion for travel and worldwide exploration. He loved fishing in the pond in his backyard and enjoyed sharing his homegrown tomatoes and herbs with family and friends. Joe could winter over geranium plants, just like his mother did and routinely picked roses from his garden for his wife to enjoy. He was extremely proud of his children and relished spending time with his grandchildren. Moving forward into his retirement years, Joe spent time at Christ the King serving as a eucharistic minister, meticulously tended to his fish tank that he treasured, and made many trips back to Poland to continue to find and visit family. His faith, heritage, and family were always the foundation of his life. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Laurie; sons, Joe Czop (Brandi) and Terry Czop (Jenni); daughters, Dawn Hanusz (Ethan) and Becky Reagan (Frank); grandchildren, Derrik, Andrew, Courtney, Kira, Aaron, Jakob, Alex and Jillian. Also surviving are his family in Poland; Janina, Kristyna, Stan, Walter and Ana. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be determined. Memorials may be made to Cherry Street Mission, cherrystreetmission.org or Doctors without Borders, donate.doctorswithoutborders.org or St. Jude Children's Hospital, www.stjude.org. Thanks to all the staff, especially Dr. Ruiz, at St Luke's Hospital for all their support and care of Joe on his last journey.
