Josephine Ann “JoAnn” Spross, age 80, of Point Place, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 12, 1940 in Toledo, OH to Joseph and Charlotte (Widanka) Tyminski. JoAnn grew up in Toledo’s Historic Polish Village and was a longtime parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker, she was a current parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. JoAnn’s memberships included the Bavarian Club, the Toledo Turners, the German American Festival Society (GAF), the Mothers of Twins club, and both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; husband James R. Spross on January 9, 2016; daughter, Julie Barkenquast; and brother, Steve Tyminski. She is survived by her children, James (Tammie) Spross II, Janet (Eric) Thompson, John Spross, and Joseph Spross; grandchildren, Robert, Krystal, Morgan, Alexis, Brandon, Christian, and Garick; and great-grandchildren, Isabella, Maximus, Mila, and Tristan.
Visitation will be Monday, February 15 from 9-10:30 a.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. Funeral services will begin Monday at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
All those attending visitation and services are asked to wear a facial covering and respect social distancing guidelines.
