Lauretta Anne St. John, age 85, of Toledo, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 2, 1941, in Columbus, OH to Elmer and Grace Bernetta (Gallagher) Coy. Raised in Toledo, OH, she was a graduate of St. Ursula Academy and the University of Toledo where she earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She taught first and second grade at Horace Mann (“Horseman”) Elementary School.
Lauretta married Richard St. John on June 29, 1968. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker, she loved caring for her family and home. She was a talented cook and enthusiastic cookbook collector who especially enjoyed baking Christmas cookies and preparing holiday meals. She also loved gardening and took great pride in keeping her yard beautifully maintained throughout the year. She was active in the Girl Scouts of the USA for 78 years and served as a troop leader at Ladyfield Grade School in Toledo, OH. Her memberships included the Tri Delta fraternity at the University of Toledo, PIGS (people in girl scouting), the “Green Hats”, and the Salesians.
Lauretta is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Richard St. John; children, K.C. St. John and Jocelyn St. John; grandchildren, Chad, Julia, Andrew, and Dominic Diesing, her “little girl” Emileigh St. John, and Madison, Alexandra, and Zachary St. John; great-grandchildren, Drayce, Wylder, Elonzo, and Zoey; sister, Catherine (Bob) Lawson; and special neighbor, Bill Sanner. She was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Kenneth R. St. John in 1993.
Visitation will be Monday, June 8 from 3-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. with a rosary led by members of the Regina Coeli Altar Rosary Society at 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday, June 9 at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in Regina Coeli Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
