Lowell James Hemmelgarn, age 81, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Toledo Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 22, 1944, in Maria Stein, Ohio to Albert and Alvina (Stucke) Hemmelgarn. Lowell graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Dayton, Ohio, with a bachelor’s degree in theology, then went on to serve proudly with the United States Army for 22 years. Lowell then worked for Brown Auto Pontiac and O’Reilly Auto Parts. He was a parishioner and usher at Rosary Cathedral for many years. Lowell was a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers, Ohio State and Detroit Lions. He enjoyed taking care of the flowers, plants and tomatoes that he grew.
Lowell is survived by his wife, Tina (Ringwood) Hemmelgarn; sons, Lee Hemmelgarn and
Patrick (Kelly Harold) Hemmelgarn; grandchildren, Christina Hall, Cody Harold and Taylor Hart; sister, Sue Hull; and sister-in-law, Maryann Hemmelgarn. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey Hemmelgran; brothers, Nick and Charles Hemmelgarn; brother-in-law, John Hall; and brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Rita Ringwood.
Visitation will be Monday, October 13, 2025, from 5-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., Toledo with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in Our Lady Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, Toledo at 10 a.m. Interment with Military Honors led by the VFW 2898/606 Burial Corps will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
