Marilyn Ruth Mooney, age 88, formerly of Erie, MI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at her residence at West Park Place surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 14, 1934 in Toledo, OH to Walter and Evelyn (Ball) Minder. A 1952 graduate of Waite High School, she and her husband Don were owners of Pete’s Hot Dog in Oregon, OH from 1981 to 1986, and The Depot in Temperance, MI from 1986 to 1991. Marilyn attended Washington Congregational Church in Toledo. She was a lifetime member of both the Conn Weissenberger American Legion Post #587 Auxiliary and Marine Corps League Auxiliary, and a member of the Chapel of Four Chaplains. Marilyn and Don were both avid bowlers at Ottawa Lanes and Forest View Lanes. She also enjoyed playing pinochle with her friends in the Pinochle Club and loved Bingo at West Park Place. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and beloved “GiGi” to her great-grandchildren, she will be dearly missed.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Kim (Todd Scheele) Mooney and Teri (Tim) Vapenik; son, Don J. Mooney II; grandchildren, Bradley Kalucki, Michelle (Keith) Zoeller, and Kristin Stout; 6 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don Mooney; and brothers, Dean and Darrell Minder.
Visitation will be Monday, August 8 from 3-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. where members of the American Legion Post 587 and Marine Corps League Auxiliaries will lead a vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also take place at Washington Church, 3925 Central Ave., Toledo on Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. in the church with Rev. Don Fothergill presiding. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
