Mary Ellen Simon

Mary Ellen Simon, 94, of Toledo, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023. Mary Ellen was born on August 8, 1928 to Harvey and Goldie Shuff. She grew up in North Toledo alongside her nine siblings.

She was a 1946 graduate of Woodward High School. She married Lawrence Simon in 1950 and he preceded her in death in 1969. She worked at Spicer, Epco Shoes, and later retired from Brooks Insurance.

Mary Ellen was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and was a kind, caring and thoughtful person and loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with her family and during baseball season, you could always find her watching her beloved Detroit Tigers.

She is survived by her children Barb (Mike) Berebitsky, Anna May (Gary) Schultz, David Simon, Kathy Alexander, Mary (Tom) Quinn, Grace (Tim) Everhardt, Roberta (Bob) Steedman, Mike Simon, son-in-law Jim Sheely, brother Bill (Dorothy) Shuff and sisters-in-law Mary Lou and Pat Shuff, grandchildren Ken (Chris), Kerry (Chad), Jenny (Erin), Mark (Liz), Alison, Kelly (Dustin), Tracy (Toby), Olivia (JJ), Kathleen (Jake), Tim (Carly), Katie (Mike), Liz (Jordon), Kristen (Jarin), Jameson, Marysa (Ricky) and Mikayla, great-grandchildren Kyle (Jessica), Trevor, Colin, Ally, Simon, Connor, Mallory, Avery, Emma, Gia, Nori, Lucy, Camille, Clayton, and two on the way, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her loving daughter Rita Sheely, brothers Jim, Bob, Dick, John and Frank and sisters Margie, Ruth and Dorothy.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 8 from 2-7 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd.  The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 9 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. James Sanford presiding.  Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
