Mary Ann Gorney, age 95, of Toledo’s Point Place community, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She formerly lived on Avondale Rd. in Toledo, and Substation Rd. in Temperance, MI. Mary Ann was born on February 20, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio, to Casimir and Mary Therese (Szymanowski) Koralewski. A graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, she worked in food service and housekeeping for the Sylvania Franciscans for 10 years before retiring to raise her family. She also served as a representative for Stanley Home Products. Mary Ann was a former parishioner of St. Stanislaus and St. Hyacinth Catholic Churches in Toledo and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie, Michigan. She was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where she served as a eucharistic minister, adult Christian formation member, lector, and choir member. Deeply devoted to her faith, she was proud to pass that devotion on to her children and their families. She also believed in staying informed about current events and was a frequent contributor to the Toledo Blade’s “Pages of Opinion.”
Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Michaelene (Ed Trafford) Gorney, Carol Gorney, Suzanne (Ron) Prebe, Cynthia Bailey, Teresa (Wit Trzaska) Gorney, and Ann (Toni) Gorney; sons, Retired Captain Joseph (Anne) Gorney, Fred (Pam) Gorney, Steven Gorney, and Daniel (Janet) Gorney; daughter-in-law, Laurel Gorney; 18 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Felicia (Ron) Przybylski; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard F. Gorney; son, F. Richard Gorney; brother, Donald Koralewski; and sons-in-law, Dan Bailey and Dan Welch.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 24 from 3-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin Thursday at 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 1:30 p.m. Inurnment will be at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery, Erie, MI.
