Melvin Joseph Urbanski passed away on February 13, 2026 at the age of 97 years old. He was born on October 21, 1928 to Lottie and Joseph Urbanski.
Those close to Melvin knew him as “Mick” He was a WWII veteran enlisting in the Army when he was only 17 years old. After returning home from Germany, he and his brother-in-law, Lee Stricker, owned a Hi-Speed service station on Front Street. He also worked at Jeep for 46 years, starting on the line and later working in the storeroom until he retired in 1991. Mick married the love of his life, Geraldine Jeziorowski, on October 27, 1956. They were married for 62 years at the time of her passing on June 23, 2019. Although Mick and Geraldine did not have children, Mick was “like a father” to his nieces and nephews, as well as to his great nieces and nephews.
Mick was very supportive of St Anthony’s parish, serving as an usher. Upon its closing, he joined St. Stanislaus and continued to serve as an usher. He loved spending time on his boat fishing, playing cards with family and friends, day trips to the casino, caring for his yard, traveling and watching the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes.
Mick is preceded in death by his loving wife, Geraldine Urbanski: his loving sisters, Loretta Stricker and Rita Heineman; and his nephew, Scott Stricker and Scott’s son, Corey Stricker. He is survived by his nephew, Garry Stricker and his wife Charlene, as well as his niece; Diane Stricker, and his great nieces and nephews.
Mick was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed. As he always said when ending a visit or phone call, “Bye Bye for Now.” And so, we now say, Bye Bye for Now.
The Funeral Mass for Mick will be Thursday, February 26 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, 719 Evesham Ave., Toledo, with visitation at the church from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors led by the VFW 606 & 2898 Honor Guard will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
