Michael Joseph McMahon, age 83, of Toledo passed away at home on Friday, July 14, 2023. He was born on February 3, 1940 in Toledo, OH to Henry Joseph and Jayne (Miller) McMahon. A graduate of St. Ann’s Grade School and Central Catholic High School, he received his bachelor’s degree in industrial management and marketing from the University of Toledo. As owner and operator of Recycle with Michael from 1977 to the present, Michael was always extremely passionate about the importance of recycling. He also traded stocks and commodities and was vice-president of Toledo Clutch and Brake from 1954-1974.
Michael was devoted to receiving the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ and was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in downtown Toledo where he served on parish council, helped with fundraising, and sang in the church choir. A close friend of Monsignor Jerome Schmidt, he also was a bus driver and frequent volunteer at the Catholic Club. He was an avid swimmer and enjoyed golfing and bowling as well. During his working career, he was a very involved member of the Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Michael is survived by his wife, Utz (Wenninger) McMahon; sons, Robert (Sarah), Daniel (Brittany), and Michael Sean McMahon; and grandchildren, Charles, Leonard, George, and Olivia McMahon. He was preceded in death by his parents; and best friend, Robert Manion.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 20 from 2-7 p.m. in Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will begin Friday at 10:15 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Lowell, MI.
