Nancy Jean Gillen, age 80, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Kingston Residence of Sylvania. She was born December 7, 1944 in Orange, New Jersey. Nancy graduated from Duquesne University and received her Masters of Education from the University of Michigan. She taught kindergarten and 3rd grade at Wernert Elementary School and was also co-owner and operator of “Signs and Such” custom signs in Toledo for 46 years along with her husband Joseph. Nancy was co-founder of the Adoption Search Rights Association (ASRA) which she ran for 20 years. A loving wife and mother, she was very active as a room mother at Wernert Elementary. She was also a skilled basket weaver and enjoyed selling Mary Kay Cosmetics, which she was still doing at age 80. A wonderful caring person, she will be dearly missed
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Irene Conlan; son, Scott Gillen in 2010; and husband, Joseph Gillen in 2024. She is survived by her son, Michael Gillen; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 24 from 2-7 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Bill Milton presiding.
