Phyllis Ann (Stachowiak) Banachowski, age 91 and resident of Otterbein Senior Living in Perrysburg OH, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026. She was born on October 14, 1934, in Toledo, OH to Stephen and Hattie (Kaczmarek) Stachowiak. Despite battling a debilitating disease for the majority of her life, Phyllis strove to be a dedicated Christian and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a woman before her time whose ideas and actions challenged societal norms of her era. Her greatest gifts included lessons in humility, loyalty, compassion, honesty and living a simple life. She was known for her quick wit and indiscriminate sarcasm. Phyllis graduated from Whittier High School and went on to model for Stein’s Department Store. She and her husband raised six children. Phyllis served as a volunteer physical education teacher during the early years of her children’s schooling at St. Clement Catholic School.
Phyllis is survived by her son, Scott; daughters, Gwen Mattison, Cheryl Fuller, Renee (Arsenio) Sa, Grace (Tim) Yackee, and Elizabeth (Richard) Long; grandchildren, Samuel Fuller, Krysta Sa, Nelda Mattison (Liz Shoda), Stella and Edy Yackee, Olivia Long, and Tiffany Smithers; great-grand-sons, Nikoli Fuller and Sammy Smithers; and sisters-in-law, Sandy Stachowiak, Laurie Stachowiak, and Marilyn Stachowiak. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Banachowski; brothers, Donald (Phyllis), Robert (Val), David, and Gordon Stachowiak; sisters, Christine Stachowiak and Dolores (Frank) Lewandowski; son-in-law, Patrick Fuller; and granddaughter-in-law, Lauren (Miller) Fuller.
Private funeral services are being arranged by Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 419-476-9176 and Saint John XXIII Catholic Church, Perrysburg, OH 43551. Interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
