Phyllis Jean (Rybka) Stachowiak, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio’s Perrysburg facility at the age of 93. She was born January 1st, 1933, in Toledo, Ohio to Walter and Harriet (Stranz) Rybka. Phyllis was a graduate of Edward Drummond Libbey High School. Over the years she worked at Ohio Bell, Oakleaf Village, Toledo Glove, and as a nanny for Dr. Garth Phibbs. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, often attending the 5 p.m. mass and enjoying dinner afterwards with her friends from the parish.
Phyllis leaves a loving legacy through her children and their spouses, Cindy (Richard) Garcia, Brent (Brenda) Stachowiak, and Susan (Ray) Kosmider; as well as her six grandchildren and spouses, Rebecca (Andrew) Spiegel, Sara (Joe) Shonebarger, Scott Stiff, Jay (Heather) Kosmider, Paige (Chris) Kosmider, and Evan (Paige) Kosmider; and great grandchildren, Eloise, Samantha, Weston, Logan, Layla, Roman, and Riley. Also surviving are her brother, Bob; special sisters-in-law, Sandy and Laurie who visited with her frequently; and niece, Pamela. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband Donald, to whom she was married for 36 joyful years; sisters, Rose Rybka, Patricia Ochenduszko, and Elizabeth Baidel; and brother, George Rybka. Phyllis had many treasured friends and a deep Catholic faith. Her sunny and loving disposition was always apparent. She loved all creatures big and small, and her loss will be especially felt by all the birds, bunnies and animals that she fed. She also had a special place reserved in her heart for her former employer Dr. Garth Phibbs and his family. She loved looking after their children and spoke often about her relationship with the family.
The family would like to thank her caregiver Shelley Ebersole who provided loving care and companionship to our mother for six years, neighbors Sue and Rick, and countless others who stopped by to check on mom.
We would also like to thank the team at Hospice of Northwest Ohio; your kindness is genuinely appreciated by her family.
Friends and loved ones are invited to gather on Friday, January 9, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. with the rosary service held at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Saturday, January 10, at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior in the church narthex. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
