Richard “Veech” Walczak, 86, formerly of Toledo and Flat Rock, MI passed away Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Sunset Village, Sylvania. He was born December 24, 1935 in Toledo, OH to Harry and Ardella (Rutkowski) Walczak. Richard was employed as a truck driver for Kroger and for E&L Transport in Brownstown, MI, and a member of Teamsters Local 299. A graduate of Macomber High School “Class of 1954”, where he was a talented baseball player, he was scouted by and dreamed of one day trying out for the Chicago White Sox. A skilled bowler as well, he rolled many 300 games and had several 800 series over the years. Richard had a passion for golf and boating and was a member of the Ottawa River Yacht Club. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church and an active member of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America.
Richard is survived by his brothers, Gerald (Ann), John (Jan), James, and Edward (Kathy) Walczak; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 26 from 10-11 a.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 East Alexis Rd. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Deacon Gerald Ignatowski presiding. Inurnment will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery.
