Rita Magdalene “Busia” Sujkowski, born July 30, 1925 in Toledo, OH, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2023 in her daughter Valerie’s home surrounded by family. Born to Anthony and Magdalene (Slomowicz) Bielawski, she was the youngest and last surviving of her siblings. Rita, along with her husband Valentine F. Sujkowski (deceased) were owners of Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe. She worked diligently at the family funeral home, keeping it very clean and other aspects in detail. Fondly called Busia by many, she was a quiet loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was formerly an active member of St. Hyacinth Catholic parish, especially when her children were young. She served as den mother for the Cub Scouts when her son Hilary was a member and worked on the parish festivals. She enjoyed traveling by bus along with her husband to casinos having fun times on their trips. Rita was known by the family as the dessert queen, especially making her black bottom pies, red cakes, and chocolate malt cakes.
Rita is survived by her daughter, Valerie (Sujkowski) Malinowski; son, Hilary J. (Amy) Sujkowski; and daughter, Audrey Sujkowski; grandchildren, Matthew Reese, Dr. Alyson (Dr. R.J.) Wessells, Andrea (Kevin Carroll) Sujkowski, and Avery (Alexandra Laurent Logue) Sujkowski. In addition to her husband, Valentine (Bill) who passed away July 19, 2019 and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Hilary (Esther) Bielawski, Edwin, and Stephen Bielawski; sisters, Alice Rancourt, Helen (Vince) Jablonski, and Gertrude (Ervin) Niewiadomski; and son-in-law, Donald Malinowski.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 2 from 2-8 p.m. in Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The Funeral Mass will take place on Monday at 1 p.m. in St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, 719 Evesham (corner of Parkside and Evesham), Toledo, OH preceded by visitation in the church from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Private interment with family will be on Wednesday in Toledo Memorial Park.
