Robert James Stapleton, born May 31, 1931 to Clara and Joseph Stapleton, left this life surrounded by the love of his family on December 12, 2021. Bob graduated from Gesu and Central Catholic High School. After graduation, he was drafted into the Army and proudly served in Korea. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Violet Ciaciuch on November 20, 1954 and recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. Bob worked several jobs,
but retired from General Motors Hydramatic in 1992 after 32 years.
Bob, also known as “Jug” in his younger days leaves behind a love of sports that followed him through life. He started by playing football in the streets with Danny Thomas, then years of fastpitch softball when he played against the “King and his Court” many times in teams made up of the best in the city; then into the bowling alleys of Toledo where he was a constant trophy winner. He loved coaching his daughter’s softball team too. All this led to his passion – golf. Bob played golf at courses near and far. He spent 28 years working at Whiteford Valley Golf Club where he was a member. He spent winters golfing with friends and family in Florida. He was an exceptionally skilled golfer. Bob also enjoyed a good game of poker, a cold beer at the bar, yearly trips to Vegas with Chris and Pat, and he never let a casino get the best of him ‘cause he always had a good time.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by infant daughter Lisa; and sisters, JoAnn (Reiter) Harris and Bettie Dury. Bob is survived by loving wife Violet; daughters, Susan (Scott) Moore and Karen (Kim Burton); special nephew, John Dygon Jr. and several nieces and nephews.
