Ronald Joseph Gorney, age 85, of Toledo, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021 at Aspen Grove Assisted Living. He was born October 8, 1935 in Belleville, MI to Harold and Genevieve (Chudzinski) Gorney. A graduate of Bedford High School, Ronald was a cement contractor and owned multiple businesses over the years. He was most recently owner and operator of the New Glass Bowl Lanes and Sneaky Pete’s Saloon in Toledo. Ronald was an avid and skilled bowler. He also enjoyed fishing and scouting auctions for great bargains. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. O’Connell Council 386, and a longtime parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doloris “Dolly” Gorney; brothers, Jerome, Richard, and James Gorney; infant daughter, Diane Gorney; and stepsons, Tim Empey and Doug Nemire. Surviving are his sons, Ronald “Butch” (Dorian) and Mark (Rosemary) Gorney; and stepchildren, Dwaine (Gretchen) Nemire, Mick Empey, Kevin Empey, Denise (Dennis) Weinstein, Kelly Bexten, Erik (Trina) Empey, and Julie Empey. Also surviving are his siblings, Kenneth (Patricia) Gorney, Barbara Gotha, Catherine Shepherd, Patricia (Ralph) Robarge, David (Tita) Gorney, and Mary (Rudolf) Burgherr; special nephew and “righthand man” Dale Gorney; and many more nieces, nephews, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and extended family.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 16 from 3-7 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. Funeral services will begin Thursday at 10:15 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery, Temperance, MI.
