Sharon Grycza Obituary

Heaven has gained another angel, and our family has lost a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Sharon Grycza passed away Friday, February 4, after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. We'll love and miss her forever!

Sharon was born in Toledo on August 5, 1935, the only child of Theodore “Ted” and Martha (Poddany) Wojnarowski. A graduate of St. Theresa’s Elementary School and Whitney High School, Sharon also attended St. Ursula Academy. During high school Sharon worked as a “soda jerk” at a North Toledo sweet shop, where she met her husband Louis, who predicted that he would marry her. When Lou returned from a stint in the Army, Sharon married the love of her life at St. Adalbert’s Church on October 1, 1955, and they moved into their first house on Otto Street, shortly afterward settling on East Oakland Street. In 1967 Sharon and Lou moved to Grantwood Street in Blessed Sacrament Parish and raised their four children in West Toledo. Finally in 2001, the empty nesters moved to Temperance, Michigan. While raising the family, Sharon also worked in real estate, then as a customer service representative at J.C. Penney in the then-new Franklin Park Mall. Finally, she ended her work career with many years at Great Lakes Marketing.

Sharon Grycza was a terrific lady, the definition of a good person who would do anything to help someone else, and who gave great hugs! She never met a stranger and insisted that there was always room for one more person at her table. Friends and family appreciated her wonderful sense of humor, and the wise advice she gave.

Sharon’s family was the center of her life, and her memory will be treasured by all. We’ll always remember her love of decorating for Christmas inside and outside, gathering her family for summer cookouts, and vacationing at Round Lake cottages and Cedar Point (where she refused to ride the roller coasters).

She volunteered for Perpetual Adoration shifts at both Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Mount Carmel for many years.

Sharon is survived by children Ann Marie (the late George) Muehlhauser of Huron, Louis David Grycza of Toledo, Russell (Gaye-Marlaine) Grycza of Bowling Green, and Kristin (Ryan) Metzger of Gahanna; grandchildren Jennifer Pero of Florida, Eryk (Katy) Grycza of Perrysburg, Thomas (Shelina) Grycza of Alabama, Athena Reynolds and Kimberly Marshall of Arizona, Brendan Polenchar of Gahanna, and Leo and Hudson Metzger of Gahanna; several great-grandchildren and many Poddany cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Lou and granddaughter Katherine in 2016.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 12 from 9-10 a.m. in St. Adalbert Catholic Church followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m.  Interment will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 419-476-9176. Condolences may be shared at www.sujkowski.com.

Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her.
