Shirley Ann Bodnar, 86, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on October 21, 2019 at the Lakes of Sylvania. Shirley was born in Toledo on July 27, 1933 to Cecil Rodeheaver & Zelea Mozena. After graduating from Scott High School, she worked at Ohio Bell retiring in 1984 after 31 years. She married the love of her life, Joseph Bodnar on July 2, 1955 and they celebrated 60 yrs. of marriage before Joe’s passing in January 2016. Shirley and Joe loved to travel. Las Vegas was always a favorite destination where she loved playing bingo, blackjack and slot machines. Shirley loved reading gossip magazines, completing Sudoku and crossword puzzles, watching soap operas, golfing and in her younger years, she was a very good bowler.
Shirley always dreamed of being a mother and she was blessed with 3 daughters and 1 granddaughter. She enjoyed taking her girls to dance classes, traveling to dance conventions, and attending the many recitals of her daughters and granddaughter. She was a kind, gentle, and loving soul who always had a smile on her face. Shirley had a wonderful sense of humor, and she loved making people laugh. Unfortunately, Alzheimer’s took control and Shirley spent her last 2 years in assisted living at The Lakes of Sylvania. She loved the activities staff and referred to them as the “sisters”. They treated her like family and made her last years much more enjoyable with fun activities and day trips to the casino. Alzheimer’s may have taken many things from Shirley, but she battled it all with grace and a smile. The family would like to thank The Lakes of Sylvania, especially the “sisters”, for their loving care.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Lorie (Ric) Clark, Lynn Wilcox (Dave Hinkel), Lisa Bodnar, and her beloved granddaughter, Callie Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Bodnar, brother Kent Rodeheaver, and sister Betty Rossman.
