Sonia Alicia Olvera (Barboza), lovingly known as “Yaya”, was born on January 19, 1980, and died at the age of 44 at home peacefully on July 27, 2024 in Toledo, Ohio.
Sonia was born to Alicia Guadalupe Barboza and George Olvera of Defiance, OH. She was preceded in death by her mother Alicia; grandfather, Ramon Barboza; godson, Rico Ledesma; cousin, Sob Sob Guerrero; cousin/brother, Daniel Barboza; and uncles, Roberto Bob Guerrero and Ruben Orozco.
Sonia was always ready for an adventure, especially when it involved spending time with her nieces, nephews, and godchildren. They were the most important people in her life, and she never missed a milestone or birthday party. She put thought and care into every gift she gave, making each one feel personal and heartfelt. She found joy in attending concerts featuring R&B and Mexican music. Baking goods and cleaning were two activities she took great pleasure in, especially when done thoroughly.
Sonia was loved by ALL. She helped raise a countless number of kids. She is survived by her siblings, George Olvera (Regina), Raquel Rodriguez (fiancé Dione), Alicia (Chaz) Boes, and many other brothers and sisters; nieces, Alicia (Lou Lou), Seina, Naya, Victoria, Laurita, Mickey, and Savona; nephews, Vicente, Dione, and Geronimo; bonus nephews, Davi & Elias; great-nieces, Esperanza and Marcelina; godchildren, Victoria, Thaila, Jordan, Sophia, and Mila; and most of all her niece, baby, best friend, princess Aria Guadalupe whom she loved dearly & catered to. If you knew what she meant to her, you know she never did anything wrong in her Yaya’s eyes. Also surviving are Sonia’s best friends, Melissa, Angie, Victoria, and Tammy.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 3 from 1-5 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The funeral service will begin at 5 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Chaz Boes presiding.
